R134a Refrigerant for Agricultural & Heavy Equipment
R134a is the modern industry-standard refrigerant for tractors, combines, skid steers, trucks, and heavy equipment AC systems. Whether you're recharging a system after a repair, topping off a slow-leaking circuit, or completing an R12-to-R134a conversion, having the right refrigerant on hand means less downtime and more time in the field.
Quality Farm Supply stocks R134a refrigerant ready to ship — so you're not waiting on a parts run when your equipment needs to get back to work.
Why R134a?
- Industry standard — R134a is the refrigerant used in virtually all modern agricultural and heavy equipment AC systems manufactured since the mid-1990s
- Widely available — unlike R12, which was phased out due to ozone depletion concerns, R134a is readily available and affordable
- Zero ozone depletion potential — R134a is an HFC refrigerant with no ozone-depleting chlorine, making it the environmentally responsible choice
- Full service ecosystem — any mobile mechanic or shop is equipped to service R134a systems, unlike legacy R12 systems
Important Charging Tips
- Charge to spec — always charge to the manufacturer's specified weight, not by pressure alone; overcharging is as damaging as undercharging
- Evacuate first — pull a deep vacuum before charging to remove moisture and non-condensables from the circuit
- Use the correct oil — R134a systems require PAG or ESTER oil; never mix with the mineral oil used in R12 systems
- Check for leaks — if the system needed a recharge, find and fix the leak first; refrigerant doesn't disappear on its own
Converting from R12 to R134a? You'll also need a conversion kit including new O-rings, a receiver drier, and retrofit charge port adapters. Shop our R134a Conversion Kits for everything needed in one order.
